The Champions League night in Belgium became a real rollercoaster for Barcelona as they eked out a dramatic 3-3 draw against Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium. Their struggles at the back were quite palpable, but the Catalan giants showed their trademark fighting spirit to claw a valuable point on foreign soil.
Club Brugge punished the slow start of Barcelona through Nicolo Tresoldi, who slotted home to make it 1–0 early in the match. Barcelona responded through teenager Lamine Yamal, who beautifully combined with Fermin Lopez to equalize before half-time.
The Belgian side refused to back down, with Carlos Forbs wreaking havoc on the right wing — scoring twice and setting up another to restore Brugge’s advantage. But Barcelona’s persistence kept them alive, and Yamal’s curling shot — which deflected off Christos Tzolis — brought the game back to 3–3 in the closing stages.
The drama didn’t stop there: Club Brugge thought they had grabbed a late winner through Romeo Vermant, but VAR intervened to rule the goal out after spotting a foul on Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Frenkie de Jong conceded after the final whistle that it was frustrating to drop points, saying the team “must do things a lot better.” Coach Hansi Flick said the same thing but insisted Barcelona will never stop playing attacking football: “We want to play with our DNA — we are Barça.”
The result leaves Barcelona questioning their defensive discipline but encouraged by the attacking flair of their young talents. Brugge, meanwhile, can take pride in a fearless display that nearly toppled one of Europe’s elite.
