In a significant diplomatic development, India and France signed a comprehensive defence technology cooperation agreement today aimed at strengthening strategic ties and expanding joint manufacturing capabilities. The pact was formalised during high-level talks in New Delhi between defence officials from both nations.
The agreement focuses on co-development of advanced defence systems, including next-generation fighter aircraft components, naval propulsion technologies, and cyber-security infrastructure. Officials described the move as a “future-ready partnership” that aligns with India’s push for indigenous manufacturing under its self-reliance initiatives.According to government sources, the deal will allow greater technology transfer and collaborative research between Indian and French defence companies. The framework also encourages joint production facilities in India, potentially generating thousands of skilled jobs and boosting exports in the defence sector.
India’s Defence Minister stated that the agreement represents “a new chapter in Indo-French strategic cooperation,” emphasizing that both countries share common values and a commitment to maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The partnership also expands cooperation in maritime security, space-based surveillance, and artificial intelligence-driven defence systems. Strategic experts view the pact as part of India’s broader effort to diversify defence partnerships while accelerating domestic production.
