Nation-building begins with duty, says PM on Constitution Day

Marking the 76th Constitution Day, the Prime Minister addressed the nation through a heartfelt letter, encouraging people to put their constitutional duties first in daily life. He told them that the progress of India depends on each citizen’s commitment to strengthening democratic values and working together in harmony with national goals.

He urged the youth and the general public to take up civic responsibilities, emphasizing that voting, the involvement in democratic processes, and responsible citizenship constitute the pillars upon which the nation’s future rests. For him, respect for the country is reflected in continuous, responsible actions taken day in and day out.

PM Modi shared personal reflections, too, on how the Constitution empowered him to rise from humble beginnings to the nation’s highest office. He went down memory lane and recollected instances when he symbolically honoured the Constitution, saying such gestures deepen his belief in its guiding principles and India’s democratic strength.

He highlighted the special importance this Constitution Day holds, with several major national commemorations coming together, which reinforce the importance of the Fundamental Duties listed under Article 51A.

He called upon the families, schools, and colleges to mark the day with meaningful activities, including programmes for first-time voters. He concluded his message by saying that the choices and actions taken today will define India’s course toward becoming a fully developed nation by 2047.
