Weather Department Says, Cyclone Ditwah likely to boost rainfall across Andhra Pradesh
The system is likely to trigger widespread rain in various coastal and interior districts after moving northward over the Bay of Bengal

IMD Issues Alert As Heavy Rain Predicted For Coastal Regions
A low-pressure area, Ditwah, now lying over the southwest Bay of Bengal, is expected to bring increased rainfall over Andhra Pradesh over the next few days. The weather system was located near latitude 11.4° N and longitude 80.6° E, about 150 km east-southeast of the Tamil Nadu–Puducherry coastline, in a position to push moisture and rain bands towards Andhra Pradesh. Its movement is expected to impact the weather over both northern and southern coastal belts.
According to IMD, light to moderate rain would commence shortly over NCAP and Yanam and would continue for the next 48 hours, with thunderstorms and wind speed reaching 35–45 kmph and gusting to 55 kmph. Heavy to very heavy rainfall could occur in the South Coastal Andhra district, and extremely heavy rainfall could occur in some areas. This situation would further arise because of the interaction of the cyclone with coastal weather systems.
Rainfall is also expected over the Rayalaseema region, including those at most places; there will be scattered rain, occasional lightning, and thunderstorms. The outer circulation from the storm will have intense rains at isolated places. Following this forecast, state authorities are on high alert and have been ordered to mobilize emergency teams, clear debris, and open shelters if evacuation becomes necessary. Electricity-restoring teams and disaster management units are placed on standby to deal with any disruptions on account of the increased weather activity.
