Starlink Claims India Prices Were Shown By Mistake, Called Them Temporary Test Figures
The fleeting glimpse into Indian tariffs — including a monthly fee and cost of equipment — resulted from a configuration glitch, the company confirmed, stressing that no official pricing has been finalised

Starlink issues clarification after confusion over India rates
It came into the limelight, after its India webpage briefly showed the monthly subscription cost at ₹8,600 and a hardware charge at ₹34,000. The figures thus went viral in no time, after which speculations started regarding the pricing model by the company in the Indian market. Soon after, Starlink took down the information and said the numbers appeared due to an internal error on the site.
Lauren Dreyer, the Vice President of Business Operations for Starlink, said that although the website built for India was live, it was not yet active and that the price which appeared on the website was merely placeholder test data. She added that these displayed rates never were meant to show what Indian users would have to pay for Starlink’s services and should not be considered as final or accurate prices.
The company further said that the technical glitch behind the unexpected dummy data appearance has already been corrected. Starlink assured users that the organisation will reveal authentic pricing only after completing necessary procedures and once all formal approvals from the Indian government are secured.
Starlink then called for the public to ignore these leaked numbers, claiming the figures were not representative of the company’s actual launch plan for the country. Although the brief flash indicated premium-level prices, the company stated no inferences should be made until an official statement is released. As of now, the business remains laser-focused on fulfilling regulatory requirements and getting ready for a proper launch in India.
