Sarfaraz Khan Explodes With Maiden T20 Ton, Emotions Run High Amidst Continuing India Team Snub

The Mumbai batter fires an unbeaten 100 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy but his dream India call-up still remains out of reach

A strong knock with a message.

Sarfaraz Khan made a loud statement with his first T20 century during Mumbai’s clash against Assam in the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday. Smashing an unbeaten 100 off just 47 deliveries, hammering eight fours and seven sixes, as Mumbai went on to reach a strong total of 220/4.

This was his first T20 appearance in nearly two years, and he reached the milestone in dramatic fashion — reaching the three-figure mark on the second-last ball of the innings. His teammates erupted in celebration as the innings added to his growing list of domestic achievements even though he continues to be left out of India’s squads.

Coming into this game, Sarfaraz had just three fifties in T20 cricket. His highest score was 67 before this match. His explosive century has come at the right time as he is likely to catch the attention of IPL franchises as the December 2025 auction draws near.

Despite consistently performing in domestic cricket, including a standout 150 in a Test innings the previous year, Sarfaraz has been consistently overlooked for both Test and white-ball selection. Now, with India’s 2026 series against Sri Lanka approaching, many believe that this could just be the moment when selectors will really take notice of the undeniable talent of the Mumbai star.
