Sangli Tragedy: Drunken Dispute Between Friends Turns Deadly

Sangli — What began as a casual evening between two childhood friends sharing drinks ended in tragedy late Wednesday night in the Kupwad industrial area of Sangli. A petty argument over money spiraled out of control, leaving one man dead and the other in police custody — both just 24 years old.

According to the police, the two friends, identified as Pratap Rajendra Chavan and Mayur Sachin Sathe, had been drinking together for most of the day. As the night wore on, tensions flared when Sathe allegedly reached into Chavan’s pocket to take money without his consent. What started as a heated argument soon turned violent.

In a moment of uncontrollable anger, Chavan reportedly picked up a stone and struck Sathe on the head. The blow proved fatal, killing Sathe instantly.

Overwhelmed by what he had done, Chavan walked to the Kupwad Police Station and surrendered, confessing to the crime. The police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations.

Officers described the case as a heartbreaking example of how a brief lapse in judgment — fueled by alcohol and rage — can shatter lives. What was once a bond of friendship between two young men ended with one losing his life and the other facing years behind bars.

As Sangli wakes up to the news, the incident serves as a grim reminder of how easily moments of anger can destroy lives and relationships built over years.
