Nothing Rolls Out OS 4.0 for CMF Smartphones with Android 16 and Enhanced Smart Tools

Nothing is officially publishing its update to OS 4.0, which is based on Android 16 and will be available for the CMF series. This promises interface refinement, better dark mode, smoother performance, and improved multitasking features

Refined Design and Smart Software Enhancements

Nothing has officially started rolling out Nothing OS 4.0 for its CMF phone series, starting with the first CMF Phone, while the update will reach the CMF Phone 2 Pro soon. Based on Android 16, the latest software is aimed at bringing a more refined user experience, establishing visual coherence and system fluidity.

The update brings subtle yet meaningful design changes throughout the interface, including refreshed system icons, a cleaner status bar, and a redesigned Quick Settings panel. All these updates intend to make navigation easier without compromising Nothing’s signature minimalistic feel. Smoother transitions across applications and menus are another important end-user visible change that contributes to a more fluid everyday experience.

Major highlights of Nothing OS 4.0 include the upgraded Extra Dark Mode, amplifying the contrast and deepening dark tones to make reading more comfortable. This feature really helps an OLED display shine with clarity, all while consuming less battery. Furthermore, home-screen customization has been extended to flexible widget sizing and layout adjustments, affording users greater control over how information will be shown to them.

Multitasking has also been the focus of attention, with increased pop-up window support that allows users to juggle multiple apps more easily. The addition of a new hidden app option reduces screen clutter while keeping often-used programs handy. Further tuning of haptic feedback makes taps and gestures feel more precise.

Beyond just visual and usability changes, the shift to Android 16 brings several important system-level upgrades, including better security protections, performance optimizations, and stability improvements. The update is being released in phases and may arrive at different times depending on the region; users of the CMF Phone 2 Pro should see it in the coming weeks.
