Navi Mumbai Launches Night Cleanliness Drive to Boost Public Hygiene
Municipal Corporation Deploys Special Teams Across CBD Belapur and Nerul

In a significant step toward improving urban hygiene, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Monday launched a special night cleanliness drive across major nodes including CBD Belapur, Nerul, and Vashi. The initiative aims to ensure cleaner roads, public spaces, and marketplaces before peak morning hours.
According to civic officials, over 250 sanitation workers have been deployed in rotating shifts between 10:30 PM and 4:30 AM. Advanced road-sweeping machines and water-sprinkling vehicles were seen operating along Palm Beach Road, railway station premises, and commercial hubs. Authorities stated that the drive was introduced after repeated feedback from residents about litter accumulation during busy daytime hours.
An NMMC spokesperson said the campaign would focus not only on sweeping roads but also on clearing construction debris, unclogging roadside drains, and sanitizing garbage collection points. “Our goal is to create visible improvement before the city wakes up. Clean mornings encourage responsible behavior among citizens,” the official noted.
Residents of CBD Belapur welcomed the move, especially shopkeepers who often struggle with waste left behind after late-night food stalls shut down. “It feels refreshing to see clean streets early in the morning. If this continues, it will greatly enhance the area’s appeal,” said a local business owner near Sector 15.
The municipal body has also installed temporary monitoring teams to track waste-prone areas. CCTV cameras in select commercial zones will be used to identify habitual littering. Officials confirmed that fines under the Swachh Bharat guidelines would be strictly imposed on violators.
Environmental volunteers and local housing societies have been invited to collaborate with the civic body to maintain cleanliness during the day. The corporation plans to review the effectiveness of the night drive after two weeks and may extend it permanently if results remain positive.
With Navi Mumbai’s population steadily growing, civic authorities believe proactive measures like these are essential to maintain infrastructure standards and public health. Citizens have been urged to segregate waste at source and cooperate with sanitation workers to ensure the campaign’s long-term success.
