Traffic diversions around Indira Gandhi Stadium

New Delhi — The national capital gears up for the grand celebration marking 150 years of the iconic song “Vande Mataram”, and Delhi Police have issued an extensive traffic advisory to manage the expected rush on Friday.

Over 11,000 participants, including dignitaries, students, and cultural artists, will be attending the function at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, according to officials. Many roads in central Delhi will be closed or heavily restricted from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. to facilitate smooth passage and ensure security.

BSZ Marg, IP Marg, Vikas Marg, MG Marg, Secretariat Road, and Velodrome Road are the major roads on which traffic movement would be affected. Parking will also be banned near the stadium.

The police have advised commuters to avoid the area, using alternative roads or public transport services. Commuters proceeding from SSN Marg towards Faridabad or Gurugram should take a detour from CDR Chowk, Mandi Road, or Bandh Road.

While ambulances and fire trucks, among other emergency vehicles, shall be allowed to pass, these are also encouraged to take diversion routes where possible to avoid congestion.

The advisory further adds that people commuting through South Delhi, Mehrauli, or Chhatarpur should plan their journeys well in advance to avoid congestion.

The mega event not only marks a milestone in the freedom movement of India but has also once again put Delhi in a balancing act: its acclaimed ability to host cultural events amidst dense traffic.
