Babri Masjid Anniversary

The administration in Beldanga has stepped up security after suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir announced that he will go ahead with laying the foundation stone for a ‘Babri Masjid’ structure. Police forces have been deployed across the area to maintain peace during the high-profile event.

A grand ceremony is scheduled on December 6 in Murshidabad’s Beldanga, where the foundation stone is expected to be laid by suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir for what he terms the ‘Babri Masjid’. Kabir claimed religious scholars from different countries would attend the function and over three lakh people would assemble during the programme.

Large-scale preparations related to hospitality and food arrangements are underway. According to organisers, preparation of around 40,000 plates of biryani is being made for the guests, while as many as 20,000 local residents are being provided with additional facilities. A huge stage measuring almost 50×80 feet has been erected on 25 bighas of land and seating for around 400 invitees has been arranged.

Kabir insists that this is his personal programme and that he will go ahead with it, come what may, after his suspension from the TMC. He has even declared that a new political party would be floated on December 22, adding further political significance to the event.

His announcement triggered strong reactions, therefore, bringing tension in political and administrative circles. The security in the district has been considerably improved, and police, along with special units, were deployed to avoid any disruptions or law-and-order issues during the foundation ceremony.
