Google Launches Selfie Video Verification for Safer Account Sign-In
Google's new selfie video verification feature aims to make account recovery more secure and protect users from identity fraud.
Google has added a new Selfie Video Verification feature to ensure security during Google Account logins and account recoveries. Apart from using password and SMS verification methods, users will now have to create a short video selfie to confirm their identity.
This method takes advantage of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology to prove that the individual accessing the account is a real person and indeed the rightful owner of that account. This is supposed to prevent the possibility of hackers using fake identities and passwords to access other people’s accounts.
According to Google, the selfie video is mainly required when recovering an account or when there are signs of suspicious logins. The process is quick and aims at adding an additional layer of security without compromising on the privacy of users.
With online attacks increasing day by day, effective identity verification measures are essential. Two-factor authentication (2FA), strong passwords, and updates of recovery details will help protect the account from any risks.
