Akhanda 2 Release Halted: ₹28-Crore Legal Dispute Forces Sudden Delay in Balakrishna’s Film
A last-minute injunction by the Madras High Court, filed by Eros International, has blocked the release of Akhanda 2, stopping shows just before paid previews were to start

Court Order Freezes Film Release
Akhanda 2’s much-anticipated release was brought to a grinding halt on December 5, 2025, owing to an unexpected injunction by the Madras High Court. The order came subsequent to a petition by Eros International, which claimed that the producers owed them nearly ₹28 crore from an earlier arbitration ruling. Until the pending amount — along with interest — is settled, the court has prohibited the film’s theatrical release and its digital or satellite distribution.
Eros claimed that 14 Reels Entertainment, the production banner, tried to avoid dues by working under a different company name while releasing the sequel. The court recognized this as a valid claim and stayed the film from hitting the screens until further notice.
“The team of the film expressed its disappointment due to the ‘unavoidable circumstances’ that caused the delay in an official statement on X. They assured their fans that they were working towards resolving the issue as fast as possible and would declare a new plan soon.
Massive Hype Turns into Sudden Setback
The stoppage came as a shock to fans, especially since the movie had cleared censorship and saw unprecedented pre-release excitement. Paid premieres scheduled for the previous night were hastily cancelled, and online ticketing platforms stopped bookings across regions.
The sequel marked the combination of Nandamuri Balakrishna and director Boyapati Srinu, which earlier brought huge box office success. But as things stand now, following the court order, the release of the film is not certain until the legal issues are resolved.
Audiences and industry watchers now await a revised release date, hoping the financial and legal dispute is resolved as soon as possible.
