ICAI Clarifies Data Breach Rumours, Says Members’ Data Is Safe
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has reassured members and students after false data breach claims spread online.
Information relating to data breaches reaches social media platforms in no time. With news about any hacking or cyber attack reaching the ears of people, people start worrying about the privacy of their personal data. However, in the present times, all the information available on social media sites may not be genuine.
The same thing happened when there were speculations about the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). People became worried about a data breach at ICAI, and rumors started spreading regarding exposure of the personal details of the chartered accountants, students, and members of the institute.
Just after the spread of such rumors, the ICAI clarified officially that their system is safe and sound and no data breach has occurred yet. In fact, the institute requested people not to share any information from social media and take everything from their official sources only.
The above case serves as a good reminder that cybersecurity isn’t just about prevention of hacking; it is about the prevention of panic that can arise due to misinformation. Artificial intelligence has come to assist organizations in detecting any anomalies in their system, but individuals too must be responsible for verifying information before they share it.
Cybersecurity awareness and the understanding of how AI works in ensuring online safety are equally important in today’s digital era as using the internet itself.
