Two bank insiders are detained after Rourkela police dismantle an organized cybercrime ring.

August 13, 2025, Rourkela In a major bust, Rourkela police detained 14 people in a complex cyber-fraud and money-laundering scheme involving mule bank accounts, including a Bandhan Bank branch manager and an IDBI Bank agent. The syndicate has been active in several states, laundering illegal gains both in India and overseas, including in Dubai and Nepal.
Unraveling the Network of Fraud
According to reports, the syndicate enlisted young criminals, including those who were already behind bars, in order to circumvent KYC, forge identification documents (such as Aadhaar and PAN), and obtain SIM cards and passbooks that were currently active. Then, frequently with covert cooperation from bank insiders, accounts were rented or sold for ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 each.
In addition to being linked to international nodes in Dubai and Nepal, banking accounts were tracked down in a number of states, including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, and Bihar.
Proof 30 Aadhaar cards, 10 PAN cards, 17 bank passbooks, 4 check books, one laptop, 15 cell phones, and a car were found by investigators during coordinated raids, highlighting the scope and complexity of the operation.
Following a prompt tip, the Cyber Crime & Economic Offenses police unit coordinated with local law enforcement to conduct two-phase raids, which resulted in the arrests.
