August 5, 2025, New Delhi A cyber fraud syndicate has been busted by Delhi Police, and five people—including a former bank employee—have been arrested for allegedly posing as bank officials in order to defraud people under the guise of account verification and KYC updates. It is thought that the gang defrauded several victims, one of whom lost ₹96,000 in a single instance.

Officials claim that the accused would call gullible citizens and pretend to be from reputable banks. They would persuade victims to divulge private information, including One-Time Passwords (OTPs) and personal banking information, by threatening to block their accounts or credit cards. These credentials were used to move money from the victims’ accounts after they were acquired.

According to the police, tracking the syndicate was made possible in large part by technical analysis of the accused’s mobile devices and apps. Additionally, the gang was found to have used real estate mobile applications as a front to conduct fraudulent KYC procedures, which ultimately resulted in the rerouting of funds to accounts that they controlled.

One of the primary suspects is a former bank worker whose familiarity with internal banking practices made the group’s frauds easier to carry out. According to reports, the other people who were arrested were in charge of the scam’s digital operations and communications.

Officers have stressed that bank representatives should never request passwords or OTPs over the phone and have cautioned the public to exercise caution. It is recommended that victims of similar scams file complaints at www.cybercrime.gov.in or call the national cybercrime helpline (1930) right away.
