Navi Mumbai: Nerul Police Hunt Four in ₹1.20-Crore Cyber Fraud and Betting Racket

Navi Mumbai: The Nerul police are on the lookout for four individuals believed to be running a cyber fraud and online betting racket worth ₹1.20 crore. What makes the case particularly alarming is the way the accused allegedly manipulated ordinary citizens into becoming unintentional accomplices.

A Scam Built on Trust

According to the police, the accused approached unsuspecting residents—many of whom were likely in financial need—and offered small sums of money in exchange for access to their bank accounts. For some people, a few thousand rupees may have seemed like an easy way to make quick cash. Little did they know that their accounts would soon be used for large-scale illegal transactions.

Modus Operandi

Once the group gained control of these bank accounts, they reportedly used them to conduct online betting activities, illegal gaming operations, and cyber fraud across multiple financial institutions. By using bank accounts registered under innocent citizens’ names, the accused were able to mask their identities and avoid direct detection.

Victims Turned Into Suspects

What’s particularly tragic is that many of these account holders may now face scrutiny or legal complications—despite having no idea their accounts were being used for criminal activities. Police officials have urged citizens to remain cautious and never hand over their bank details, no matter how small or harmless an offer may seem.

Police Crackdown Underway

The Nerul police have intensified their search for the four accused and are working to trace the money trail to uncover their wider network. Authorities are also appealing to the public to come forward if they have been approached with similar offers.
