Maharashtra Launches ₹837 Crore Cyber Safety Project to Protect Citizens Online

Mumbai — In a big move to make the internet safer for people across the state, the Maharashtra cabinet has approved a ₹837 crore cyber safety project.

The aim of the project is simple — to make sure that anyone who becomes a victim of online fraud, hacking, or cyber harassment gets quick and effective help.

To do this, the government will set up a 24×7 call centre where people can report cybercrime anytime, day or night. No more waiting for office hours or struggling to find where to complain.

The project will also bring together powerful technology under one roof — including a control and command centre, advanced investigation tools, a Computer Emergency Response Team, a cloud-based data centre, and a security operations centre. Skilled officers will be trained to handle digital crimes more efficiently so that cases are not just investigated but also taken to conviction.

In another decision, the cabinet has also provided relief to financially struggling sugar cooperative factories. These factories will now be able to take loans from state cooperative banks with government support.

Overall, Maharashtra is taking steps both to protect people online and to support key industries — a move toward a safer and stronger future.
