Mahesh Babu’s Lord Ram sequence in Varanasi leaves fans wowed; call it Rajamouli’s “Ramayan”
At the ‘GlobeTrotter’ event, S.S. Rajamouli presents an intense Ram-inspired scene as an intro featuring Mahesh Babu and invites comparisons with the Indian epic Ramayana

A Mythic Vision Takes Centre Stage
S.S. Rajamouli’s much-publicized movie Varanasi – hitherto known as “GlobeTrotter” – dropped a teaser recently. A full two-minute clip teases Mahesh Babu, essaying the role of Rudhra, in glorious, mythic form as Lord Ram himself, complete with bow and battle posture. The richness of that moment, launched in all visual splendor, has fans likening Varanasi to Rajamouli’s personal take on the Ramayana.
The shooting of this sequence, according to Rajamouli, was a mammoth task; it went on for 60 days, with each mini-episode within the sequence demanding fresh planning and execution.
The director says that when he saw Babu in the Rama look for the first time, he got “goosebumps,” describing a mix of Babu’s serenity and divinity.
The title reveal of Varanasi and more of its myth-inspired aesthetic was also held as part of the GlobeTrotter event at Ramoji Film City. The scale and ambition of this Ram-infused storyline have excited not just fans but also industry insiders, who believe this could become one of Rajamouli’s most memorable sequences.
