Sharmila Tagore Applauds Saif Ali Khan’s Parenting Approach on Soha Ali Khan’s Podcast
The legendary actress opens up about modern parenting during a candid family conversation, saying, "I think Saif is an extremely hands-on father," as she reflected on generational changes

A Sincere Family Discussion on Being a Parent
Recently, veteran actress Sharmila Tagore spoke warmly about her son Saif Ali Khan’s parenting during an appearance on Soha Ali Khan’s podcast All About Her, which was also joined by granddaughter Sara Ali Khan. Sharing her observations on how parenting styles have changed over generations, Sharmila said the earlier generation depended more on elders’ advice, whereas today’s parents depend more on books, discussions, and shared experiences. She also praised her son, saying he had done a great job balancing a film career with being an involved parent.
She remembered Saif’s sense of responsibility and discipline as a parent. Sharmila recalls nights when Sara would return home to do her homework amidst late-night film premieres. She shared an interesting incident about Ibrahim Ali Khan, where Saif told her to let kids be themselves and never expect perfection, adding a new dimension in her life towards parenting.
The discussion also threw light at the bond Saif shares with his younger sons, Taimur and Jeh. Sharmila appreciated his honesty and emotional openness with them, particularly during difficult phases such as his accident, saying how he kept himself closely connected to his children. Sara added her own insights, speaking of growing up after her parents’ separation and values imbibed from both Saif and her mother, Amrita Singh.
With a much lighter tone, Sara jokingly talked about how her parents shaped different facets of her personality. She said her father instilled in her a sense of diverse interests and perspective on the world, and she credited her mom with keeping her rooted and calling her out when superficiality would rear its head in this often very appearance-driven industry.
