“Haq” Arrives on Netflix: A Courtroom Drama, Punch with Justice

Netflix has now brought Haq, a Hindi courtroom drama, to its streaming library-a fresh ground for the film to get wide coverage. The movie, which released in theatres in November 2025, will now mark its digital arrival, at the ease of the viewer in their homes. The film stars Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi in key roles and is directed by Suparn Verma. Serious as it gets, Haq deals with justice, resistance, and the emotional cost of lawsuits.

The plot is about a woman who is left to fight for her rights after being abandoned by her husband, thus putting her into a tough legal fight in court. As this plot emerges, it reveals the complexities that exist in the legal system in India as well as social pressures that women undergo to gain justice in court. Taking ideas from debates in real legal systems, with shades from the historical ‘Shah Bano case’, ‘Haq’ aims to open a discussion on ‘personal laws’ and equality between genders. The emotional aspect, along with courtroom drama, thus becomes the foundation of this film.

Though Haq had little success at the box office, it got appreciation for its performances and topics. People liked Yami Gautam’s subtle act in it. The topic of the film attempted to handle sensitive matters.

Haq is also available in Hindi with subtitles and is yet another socially relevant Indian film on Netflix’s increasingly diverse library. This OTT release provides the film with a second opportunity to reach its intended audience and further supports the use of OTT platforms for pushing socially relevant content into the ever-changing entertainment space.
