India Launches Nationwide AI-Powered Cybersecurity Mission

The Government of India has officially launched a new AI-powered cybersecurity mission aimed at strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure and protecting citizens from increasing online fraud and cybercrime. The initiative was announced on 22 May 2026 and is expected to improve cybersecurity across banking, e-commerce, education, healthcare, and government sectors.

According to officials, the new system uses Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to detect suspicious online activities in real time. The mission will help identify phishing attacks, fake websites, financial scams, ransomware threats, and data breaches before they cause major damage. Cybersecurity experts believe the initiative is a major step toward making India’s digital ecosystem safer and more secure.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology stated that the project will also focus on spreading awareness among internet users. Educational campaigns, online safety workshops, and digital literacy programs will be conducted nationwide to help people understand how to stay safe online.

In recent years, India has seen a significant rise in cybercrime cases, especially involving digital payments and social media scams. Authorities reported that thousands of users lose money every day due to fake calls, fraudulent apps, and phishing links. The new cybersecurity mission aims to reduce such incidents by improving digital monitoring and strengthening cyber defense systems.

Industry experts have welcomed the move and said it will boost trust in India’s rapidly growing digital economy. Businesses operating in e-commerce and fintech sectors are also expected to benefit from enhanced cybersecurity measures.

The government has urged citizens to use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and avoid clicking on suspicious links or messages.
