Thane/Navi Mumbai: The Nerul Police have registered a case against three women domestic workers for allegedly stealing gold jewellery, coins, and biscuits valued at ₹85.5 lakh from the residence of a 64-year-old man in Navi Mumbai, officials said on Wednesday.
Details of the Theft
The theft reportedly occurred between April and June at the man’s house in the Nerul area. All three accused were employed as domestic helps during this period.
Police said the women exploited the trust placed in them by the homeowner to systematically steal the valuables, which included gold jewellery and coins weighing nearly 900 grams, totaling ₹85,50,000. “They managed to carry out the thefts without attracting the victim’s attention throughout the period,” a senior official from Nerul Police Station said.
Accused Individuals
Two of the accused are residents of Nerul, while the third lives in the railway servants’ quarters in nearby Mumbai, the official added.
Legal Action
A case has been registered under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with theft committed by a clerk, servant, or employee of property in the possession of their employer. Investigations are currently underway to uncover further details and recover the stolen items.
