Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga Lead 2026 Grammy Race as K-Pop Makes History

Lamar leads this year’s Grammy nominations with nine nods, while Gaga follows with seven — and, for the first time ever, K-Pop artists break into the biggest Grammy categories.

The Recording Academy has announced its nominees for the 2026 Grammy Awards, and all eyes are on Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga-two powerhouses from different ends of the music spectrum-who are positioned to dominate this year’s ceremony.

Lamar, frequently lauded for merging incisive lyricism with cultural critique, tops the nominees’ list with nine, including Album of the Year for GNX. The win would represent a historic moment for Lamar as the first rapper in more than two decades to take the top album prize, a victory last pulled off by Outkast in 2004.

Not far behind is Lady Gaga, with a total of seven nominations for her genre-bending Mayhem project. The album, which marks her return to electrifying dance-pop, has been hailed as one of the most ambitious works from the singer to date, earning her nominations across major categories including Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.

K-Pop Marks a Grammy Milestone

In a game-changing moment for music worldwide, K-Pop finally broke into the “Big Four” categories at the Grammys. Rosé, from BLACKPINK fame, was nominated as Song of the Year for her single APT, along with another K-Pop song, Golden by Hunter × Hunter. This is a big cultural moment that proves the genre’s increasing influence beyond language and borders.

The nominees also show a deeper global shift in music. Bad Bunny’s all-Spanish album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, was nominated Album of the Year, further pushing the Grammys to pay greater attention to non-English-speaking music.

The Grammys, for 2026, will happen this February in Los Angeles and promise to be a redefining night from the resurgence of hip-hop to the international breakthrough of K-Pop.
