🎯 Why HR88B8888 attracted attention
A fancy vehicle number plate, HR88B8888, has been auctioned for a record ₹1.17 crore in Haryana, making it the most expensive registration number ever sold in India. The combination attracted enormous curiosity because the letter “B” closely resembles the digit “8,” thus giving the plate an attractive string of repeating eights. Many consider such patterns lucky and a marker of prestige.
📝 How the Bidding Unfolded
The auction was conducted on the national portal used by MoRTH to sell VIP numbers. Starting at a reserve price of ₹50,000, the number entered a hot contest. By midday, the bid had already touched ₹88 lakh, and by the final closing at 5 pm, the price surged to ₹1.17 crore. As many as 45 participants competed for it, reflecting exceptionally high interest.
The winning bid was made by a businessman resident of the Badhra region in the Charkhi Dadri district. As per the rules, he will have to pay the full amount within five days to get the number officially issued. He said he hadn’t expected the bidding to escalate so dramatically but was drawn to the number’s unique pattern. For now, he hasn’t decided which vehicle will eventually bear this much-wanted registration.
