Modi-Shah Tighten Grip in BJP with Nitin Nabin Being Made Working President
"Unexpected rise of a Bihar minister brings focus to more centralized control in the Party organization"

Power Consolidation Through Organisational Rejig
In a major organizational change, the Bharatiya Janata Party has appointed Nitin Nabin, a minister in the Bihar government, as its national working president, which is interpreted largely as a continuation of the dominance of both Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The news took many in political circles by surprise since Nitin Nabin is not very evident at the national level.
At 45, Nabin is a five-term MLA from Bankipur in Patna and a cabinet minister in the Bihar government at present. His selection puts him in a shortlist of probable successors to the presidency of the BJP, which is being projected through J.P. Nadda, symbolizing a need for a dependable and disciplined leadership.
PM Modi publicly welcomed Nabin, complimenting him on being a dedicated and passionate worker with hands-on experience in organizing. He said he expected Nabin’s dedication and political background to help reinforce the organizational structure of the party in years to come.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah too welcomed the news, citing in this regard the lengthy association that Nabin has with the BJP. Similar reactions were heard from some of the senior leaders of the BJP, who stated that it is a reward for loyalty and performance.
Political analysts have noted that this signals a tightening of control over the BJP’s structure by the Modi-Shah leadership. With electoral battles on the horizon and planning for future leadership, making a move such as this with an individual such as Nabin will indicate a future prioritizing discipline and control.
The news is being seen in a larger context of an attempt to simplify the organizational command structure in BJP and make sure important roles are strictly in line with the top leadership of the part
