Mumbai, November 6, 2025 — The Indian entertainment world today lost veteran singer and actress Sulakshana Pandit, who died of a cardiac arrest in Mumbai at the age of 71 years. The sad news was confirmed by her brother, noted composer Lalit Pandit, who shared that the singer had been unwell for some time. Her funeral will be held tomorrow in Mumbai.
Born on July 12, 1954, into one of Bollywood’s most musical families, Sulakshana carved her own identity as an actress and a playback singer. She made her acting début in Uljhan (1975) opposite Sanjeev Kumar and went on to become quite a regular face in Hindi cinema opposite leading stars such as Rajesh Khanna and Vinod Khanna.
As a singer, Sulakshana lent her voice to many memorable songs: “Tu Hi Sagar Hai, Tu Hi Kinara” and “Bandhi Re Kahe Preet”. Few artists of the time could pull off acting and singing with aplomb like she did.
She had been keeping away from the limelight for the past few years and was reported to be struggling with health issues. Despite personal struggles and a career slowed down over time, Sulakshana remained deeply respected for her contribution to Indian cinema and its music.
